On Sept. 30, HSMO’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch took in two adult female alpacas from Southeast Llama Rescue. They were in for a big surprise when one of the alpacas gave birth only a few hours after arriving at the ranch! The mother alpaca was in poor health and initially unable to support her newborn with colostrum, so the Longmeadow team jumped in to supplement and save his life.
In the weeks since his birth, the little guy has spent his days nursing and getting acquainted with the world. Longmeadow hosted a naming contest for him on Facebook and Instagram platforms, where the public could vote between four names: Michael, Alpacacino, Pacha and Fruitloop. When all was said and done, Alpacacino was the clear winner!
For now, he is not available for public viewing or interaction, but we look forward to the day where he can meet all of his fans. Welcome to the ranch, Alpacacino!
