The Humane Society of Missouri is waiving all adoption fees for dogs 35 pounds and up for the rest of the month of July. Dogs breeds vary widely, but currently include Coonhounds, Labradors, Siberian Huskies, Pit Bull Terrier Mixes and more. To see what pups are currently available for adoption at either of HSMO’s shelters, interested adopters can visit HSMO’s adoption page, which is updated hourly.
The promotion is taking place at both HSMO shelters, including at their headquarters on Macklind Avenue near the St. Louis Science Center, and at their Best Buddy Center in Maryland Heights on Page and Schuetz roads.
“Our Animal Cruelty Task Force is always willing to step in and rescue animals who are being abused and neglected, and our mission goes beyond rescuing and includes rehabilitation and rehoming,” says Kathy Warnick, President of the Humane Society of Missouri. “We have wonderful pups, some who have had to endure unspeakable abuse or neglect, who are just waiting for their forever families to come find them and bring them home. We hope that by waiving the adoption fee, more people will be willing and able to give them the second chance they deserve.”
Adopters will need to come to the shelter and apply, meet with an adoption counselor and spend time in a “meet and greet” room to be sure the dog is a perfect fit for the interested adopter. No outside pets can be brought to the shelter. Adopters will need to pay $10 to cover the cost of the rabies tag — a requirement of both St. Louis City and County.
