Join HSMO’s Young Friends for Barktoberfest — the ultimate pet-friendly Halloween event in St. Louis.

Fall in St. Louis means cooler weather, colorful leaves, and one of the city’s most-anticipated pet events of the year: Barktoberfest, hosted by the Humane Society of Missouri and its energetic Young Friends group.

This unique Halloween dog party invites pet lovers and their four-legged friends to celebrate the season while supporting animals in need across the region. Behind the fun, the event helps fund HSMO’s lifesaving programs — from shelter care to animal rescue operations.

Each fall, Barktoberfest transforms Urban Chestnut in Midtown into the city’s biggest Halloween costume party for pets and their people. Guests can enjoy craft beer, local food trucks, raffles, costume contests, and more — all in support of animal welfare.

Tickets are just $25, including admission, a drink token, and access to raffles with prizes donated by local businesses. From St. Louis sports-themed baskets and “Taste of STL” packages to wellness goodies and pet portraits, there’s something for everyone.

“It’s the biggest Halloween party for you and your pet in St. Louis,” says Laura Keller, chief communications officer at HSMO.  “Even if you can’t bring your pet, it’s a fantastic way to connect with fellow animal lovers.”

Proceeds from Barktoberfest and other Young Friends initiatives help fund vital HSMO programs, including the Animal Cruelty Task Force — the only one of its kind in Missouri. The task force rescues animals from hoarding situations, puppy mills, and natural disasters, ensuring each one gets the care and compassion they deserve.

In July alone, HSMO saved more than 200 animals from a single hoarding case — a powerful reminder of how community support truly saves lives.
