June 18, 2019

The Humane Society of Missouri has increased to $4,000 the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for the mutilation of the ears of a 3-month-old female, pit bull puppy HSMO staff named Gloria.

“We have received several calls about this incident; however, nothing has led to the people who so horrifically abused this sweet, defenseless puppy,” said HSMO President Kathy Warnick. “Someone knows how this happened. We are hopeful increasing the reward will encourage persons with information to come forward so that no other animals suffer from such needless cruelty.”

Anyone with information about this crime should call the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314-647-4400 any time, day or night. Calls may be made anonymously; however, to receive the reward, callers must leave contact information.

The application period for Gloria’s adoption has ended. Thank you to everyone who submitted their information! HSMO adoption staff will review all applications and contact prospective adopters for possible phone and in-person interviews.

UPDATE
June 17, 2019

Today, Gloria went under anesthesia for more than an hour to surgically close the wounds to her ears and neck. This will speed along the healing process.

Dr. Mark Wright, director of Shelter Medicine at HSMO says she is healing well, and she has a very loving disposition. Dr. Wright is hopeful that Gloria will make a full recovery.

ORIGINAL STORY – June 12, 2019

The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for the appalling mutilation of the ears of a 3-month-old female, pit bull puppy.

The puppy, which Humane Society of Missouri staff have named Gloria, was brought to the Humane Society’s headquarters on Macklind Ave. on Monday afternoon by a passerby who saw her dropped out of a car and bleeding on Chambers Road at some point west of the village of Riverview in North St. Louis County.

According to Dr. Mark Wright, director of shelter medicine at the Humane Society of Missouri, both of the puppy’s ears had very jagged, open, bleeding wounds in what appeared to be a cruel, amateur attempt to crop the animal’s ears. “This poor puppy endured horrific pain under what was surely inhumane, unsanitary conditions,” said Dr. Wright.

In offering the $2,500 reward for information about the perpetrators, Humane Society of Missouri President Kathy Warnick said, “There is absolutely no justification for this type of horrific abuse of a defenseless animal. We will do everything in our power to find and hold responsible the person who did this atrocious act.”

Anyone with information about this crime should call the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314-647-4400 any time, day or night. Calls may be made anonymously.

Despite the severe injuries to her ears, Gloria is expected to make a full recovery and will be made available for adoption in the next several weeks.
